Do You Psyche Yourself Out During A Writing Vacation

Reading a post today over at Writer Unboxed got me to wondering...

How often do you plan time off for a writing holiday but when the time comes you psych yourself out and don't make any meaningful progress?

If this happens to you, isn't it one of the most annoying things ever?  I know it is common for me and drives me absolutely bonkers.  Time is so precious I hate to waste it.

What tips and helpful hints do you recommend for a successful writing holiday?  I'd love to hear how you make it work for you.

I know what you mean.
I used to have one day a week that was my "writing day" - a similar kind of thing, really. Annoyingly, it finished at kinder pick-up time, which is 2.30 in the afternoon, and between that and catching up with a friend for a child-free pray in the morning (and subsequent coffee and chat) and anything else...well, sometimes I opened my WIP and wrote a sentence!

I've decided, for me at least, the only way to really write is to do it every day - bite the bullet and get up EARLY (oh fun!). But it has been fun! And now I get my Fridays off, to myself, without feeling guilty about not writing.

Hope the job situation resolves for you soon : )

Thanks, Megan. Yes, usually if I don't get my writing done in the early morning, it doesn't get done. I can write during mid morning and early afternoon, and when pushed (ie desperate) in the evenings, but early a.m. is consistently my best time.
